Well, the title says it all. We had a storm last night with extreme gale force winds and rain that was moving horizontally to the ground–hitting our windows like beebees. At around 10:30 pm the power went out. Luckily I had planned and had gotten all the candles and flashlights ready–so we merrily went to bed by candlelight. Then we woke up disoriented this morning and found out that school had been cancelled. Which was fine except for the fact that DH and I had planned on Girlfriend going to school today so we could clean and organize the house for my birthday party tomorrow. Sigh. So, we spent the day hanging out and then went over to a friend’s house just a few blocks away (they had power). Finally, the power went on at around 4:00 this afternoon. This is a big YAY because I can bake my birthday cake!!! (I need to bake my own cake because I am gluten intolerant.)
Scenes from why our power went out can be found at Jessica‘s blog.

Hi again, we have a working oven! we made Bears shortbread as the first thing and it’s great – the husband loves it (not too sweet he says). I made them in the shape of bear footprints and everyone that has eaten one has had to make a “good luck Bear” wish. We’ve only a few short-Bears left, more baking tomorrow maybe…

Wow – quite a storm. We had a couple of weeks of really stormy gales and lashing rain but nothing as bad as that. Happy Birthday

Hi other Jeanne! 🙂 Yikes! I’m sorry you had so long without power. It was charming for the night and the morning, but it got old (and cold) by the afternoon. We were definitely lucky to get the power restored so early.

I’m the “other” Jeanne from Jessica’s blog – I survived the windstorm, too (I live in Auburn). Electricity went out at 5:30 pm, about five minutes after the wind started up. 48 hours of no power turned me into a shivering, cranky little weenie. ;D
