My daughter, that is. Last night she had a temperature of 105. We spent the whole night dosing her with fever reducers and trying to keep her body cool. She was so hot that I almost felt like her skin was burning my skin when she was cuddled up against me. The fever went down by the morning, but is climbing again. We’re doing the same routine tonight, I guess. I know this is getting into dangerous territory, but I also know what the danger signs are.
As for myself, I just got over my own round of illness–a stomach bug. Bleh. We’re just a barrel of fun over here.
I’m working on several knitting projects–I know I routinely forget to talk about them. Currently I’m knitting the Saranac sweater from Knitty for my husband out of KnitPicks’ Wool of the Andes Yarn in the Fern color.
I’m working on the Fiber Trends Peace Shawl out of purple Zephyr.
And the Embossed Leaves socks from the Winter ’05 Interweave Knits in Lorna’s Laces Shepherd’s Sock yarn in the Yellowstone colorway. I lost these for awhile (they accidentally got shoved under an armoire during the lice craziness). It’s such an easy and pretty pattern, but I feel cranky about it. The cast on she uses is wayyyyy too tight. I knit up half of the first sock before thinking to try it on and found I couldn’t get it up my calf without cutting off my circulation. And there are a couple of typos in the pattern. And then a weird section where the pattern asks you to cut the yarn and then start the gussets on the opposite side of the heel. Why? So you have more knots? I don’t get it. Whine. I have a few more rows on the second sock and I’ll be done–I just can’t seem to get up the energy to work on these.
So, I went to the feed store on Thursday (before all the hurling commenced) and got some organic feed for the chickens. They had all the new spring chicks and boy were they cute! Just little peeping balls of fuzz. I was tempted to get two more to replace our lost gals, but I wasn’t sure I was ready for that. And I’m not sure what breed to get. Our two current gals are Silver-Laced Wyandots–which means black with white streaks. There are also Golden-Laced Wyandots–which are gold with white streaks (stunning, actually). My daughter is bugging us to get more, but I’m not sure I’m up for the whole slow-introduction thing, although the feed store gals said it would be fine if you introduce the mature gals to the chicks in a slow manner. So, we’ll see. Bok, bok.
Someday I’ll get a good digital camera and learn to use it well and then this blog will be awash in pictures…

Oh no. Poor baby. 🙁
I’m glad you found that sock though. I knew it would show up.

I love it when you post pics of the chickens! I’ve been lurking around for awhile. I like your blog a lot. 🙂
