So, as of Saturday night, our daughter is lice-free. Yes! Forget about the Olympics, we have conquered the nits! We are still doing the lice combing, pillow, towel and clothes washing every night, as well as vacuuming just to make sure. But, I think we’ve seen the last of the creepies for now.
I wanted to share some of my research with you. It turns out that lice combing and hair checking is the most effective way of treating lice. You see exactly what you’re dealing with when you comb regularly and do manual nit checks–because you actually see whether or not the problem is still there.
After our experience, I am convinced that there is no need for any other “products” other than the lice comb. Pesticides are dangerous to people (there is some good research out there that links lice pesticide shampoo with leukemia in kids) and lice are becoming resistant to the pesticides anyway. Also, I guess it’s fairly common for kids to get reinfested fairly quickly when the shampoo is used, because people think things are taken care of, don’t check for nits, the nits hatch and the problem starts all over again.
So, lice comb, lice comb, lice comb.
I never thought I’d hear myself say those words.
