Since I last posted, I’ve joined Facebook and Twitter. Now I have endless ways to waste time and tell people the minute details of my life. I promise I won’t post things like when I use the loo or anything. I’ve heard some people do stuff like that.
As a result (mainly of messing around on Facebook), I am falling further and further behind on my Tangled Yoke Cardigan. I had planned to finish it by now so I could start my next NaKniSweMoDo sweater, Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Fair Isle Yoke Cardigan. I told you–I am not to be trusted to keep up with these KAL’s.
I also haven’t posted anything else about our trip to Disneyland. I will someday. I will tell you that we inspired Snow White to get chickens. As she told Girlfriend (while counting on her fingers), “I have birds and chipmunks and squirrels and rabbits, but I don’t have chickens. You [pointing to Girlfriend] have inspired me to get chickens!” Wow. Girlfriend used her superpowers of persuasion to influence a famous princess. The next day we ran into Snow White again, and Girlfriend let slip that SW is her “second favorite princess.” SW, knowing she was in the presence of someone truly important, replied: “I’m honored!” So gracious, don’t you think?
Apparently, Girlfriend’s favorite princess is Cinderella. It must run in the genes. Cinderella is my favorite princess, too! The reason I liked Cinderella is that she triumphed over the mean people in her family and showed them how fabulous she was. I also had an intense martyr complex when I was little. Girlfriend, on the other hand, decided that Cinderella is the princess after her own heart because Cinderella doesn’t need to be saved by the Prince. She just had a couple of chance meetings with him and had some help from her Fairy Godmother to let her attend the ball. You know, the usual. The reason SW is her second favorite is that Girlfriend really likes her dress (it is fabulous with the slits in the puffy sleeves). I will admit that my favorite dress, when I was young, was Sleeping Beauty’s dress. It had a cool neckline and I liked the color. And she had fun fairy godmothers–they were small and they looked cute. I didn’t get into her story so much, though.
Did anyone else have the long, involved discussions with their childhood friends about which princess had the best dress? My (childhood) friends and I argued about this for hours. And we only had three princesses to talk about–Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. I was always so torn, because I loved Cinderella, but I couldn’t resist Sleeping Beauty’s dress. And Snow White’s sleeves were so cute. Agh. The angst! How do little girls stand it now? Between Ariel and Belle and Jasmine and Mulan and the original three, how does one choose? I bet those discussions are cut-throat.
