Little birdy footprints on our back stairs
Happy Boxing Day! We don’t really celebrate this–until I looked it up for this post I was never quite sure what it was. But, it’s nice to have something to wish people as they cross-country ski down the street:
It has warmed up here, but much of the snow is still on the ground (although it’s getting mushier). We’re getting snow showers mixed with rain. It’s weird. Snow fell most of the day yesterday–talk about a white Christmas! But, today it rained much of the day. As you know, I love the snow and I can’t get enough. So, I am sad to know that the snow is on its way out. But, we sure had a lovely snowy holiday the past week and a half.
On Christmas Eve, we were busy preparing for the next day. We engaged in the Great Gingerbread House (gluten-free, of course) Project of 2008. This is where we turned this:
What can I say, it’s a gift. Now we have a whole bunch of gingerbread cookies–they’re not pretty, but they’re yummy. Some of these we ate and some we left for Santa, along with the customary glass of milk. We also left carrots for the reindeer. You know, the usual.
Oh, and while we were doing leisurely things, my knitter pal, Erin, was working hard, giving birth to her new baby girl. Yay! Go over and wish her congratulations if you have a sec.
Yesterday we had dAhub’s parents and a dear friend over for Christmas. We had a long leisurely day that consisted of eating, opening presents, playing with said presents, chatting, cooking, and eating some more. We had our traditional shrimp creole dinner (doesn’t everyone?), with chocolate steamed pudding (again, gluten-free) for dessert. I am something of an Anglophile (it’s super embarrassing that I wasn’t clear on the Boxing Day thing), so an actual steamed Christmas pudding makes me very happy!
I can finally show the gifts I knit for dAhub’s parents. For dAhub’s father, whom we call Granddude (seriously), a nosewarmer:
Pattern: Nosewarmer, 2nd Generation, by Amy R. Singer from the Winter 2002 Knitty
This project was so fun and silly to knit!
For dAhub’s mom, whom we call Grammy, a pair of socks:
Pattern: Conwy, by Nancy Bush, from Knitting on the Road
Modifications: I by-passed all the calf shaping and cast on 60 stitches on a larger needle (2.5)–fits great!
Today I got brave and actually drove–up to the house of Girlfriend’s best friend, Boyfriend. As I sat, drank wine, knit, and chatted with his moms, they played like crazy–to make up for all the time the snow kept them apart because we live several miles away from each other. It was a very nice day.
