Girlfriend’s birthday was last weekend. My sister and her daughter came to for the weekend, which means that Girlfriend and Cousin had a fab time together.
Girlfriend’s 8th birthday party had an Oz theme this year. She really likes the books (she and dAhub are on the 11th one (there are something like 49 books). Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that my sister was here. She is extrememly talented at everything creative and was up for helping me do all the stuff around the cake and the favors.
We had an Emerald City cake, made with a cake pan that had the shape of a castle:
We made the yellow brick road and the poppy field with white chocolate. We made Silver Slipper lollipops out of white chocolate, too, as party favors:
FYI: in the books the slippers are silver instead of rubies (and Girlfriend is a fiend when it comes to accuracy).
We had a game of Pin the Ax on the Tin Woodsman (picture done by dAhub):
We had hired a magician–the first time we’ve ever done something like that. We called him the Wizard (heh, heh). He was lots of fun–and made tons of age-appropriate jokes. At one point he produced a live bunny and the kids just loved him:
You can just barely see all the post-it notes on the walls–dAhub did that with the thought that they looked like emeralds…
A fun time was had by all and the kids didn’t destroy the house (which is always a plus in my book).
