Hello, everyone. I have been lost in the depths of taking care of a sick child alternating with volunteering at her school.
Girlfriend has what has now been diagnosed with an ear infection caused by a drug-resistant bacteria. Scary. She’s been on several sets of antibiotics. She’s now on some ultra antibiotic that they pull out in the hard core cases. Yuck. We’re giving her kefir, yogurt and probiotics to offset the damage the antibiotics are doing to her system. Anyway, Girlfriend is feeling better and went back to school today.
We’ve had several days of beautiful, sunny and warm weather. Yesterday was in the 80s. I loved it. Girlfriend and I spent all day in the backyard with the hummingbird, butterflies, birds and other assorted creatures. We watched the mama wren bring worms to her babies in the birdhouse outside of the kitchen. The hummingbird is doing his (her?) usual thing of chasing the butterflies around the yard. He/she seems to do this every year at the beginning of the nice weather. What a wacky creature–how much competition would a butterfly give a hummingbird?
We let the chickens out of their pen yesterday to cruise the yard. I was quite watchful to make sure they didn’t destroy any of the new things growing around the yard. Chickens are quite social creatures and they spent a good deal of time roosting on the cross bars under the table we sat at. That’s their favorite place during the summer. It also gives them a prime mooching spot in case any macaroni and cheese drops on the ground–that’s their favorite food.
My roses are outdoing themselves this year. My Cecile Brunner has covered a huge portion of the entrance of the garden and is sending shoots over for the neighbor’s pleasure. Mme. Alfred Carriere has climbed the hawthorne tree and is magnificent. My Gertrude Jekyll is doing very well in her new spot and is quite fragrant. And my Jude the Obscure in the front is always a show stopper–people stop and gawk. I do too–it’s huge and beautiful and fragrant. I will post pictures when I find the camera.
I am still knitting. Pictures some day. The Forest Path stole is still quite fun.
Happy Blue Moon tonight. Blue Moons (a full moon twice in a month) only come every 2 or 3 years. Enjoy this one. Sit out and gaze at her for a bit. I will be doing the same.

Poor baby chick – that ear infection sounds awful (and poor mama chick having to deal with baby chick and her bug). Your garden sounds just gorgeous – cecile brunner is one of my favourite roses, she really is something special. Wishing you all bug-free and restored to health asap
