I was walking around the lake near my house today and at one point everyone was looking up, pointing to a tree. Of course I had to look up, too. And I was surprised to see a magnificent Blue Heron sitting in the tree (no, I don’t know if it was kissing someone). I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Blue Heron sit up in a tree. If you know these birds, you know that they are huge and like to stand on rocks in the middle of the water. Or on a beach. But not like a cute little birdie in a tree. Then it pooped–and it was like a rainshower under that tree. I am SO glad I wasn’t under there.
So, I’m trying to make my way through the crazy land called the First Month of School. Sheesh. Too much is happening. I’m basically a chauffeur for my daughter and all her activities. I don’t mind, but it is kind of boring after awhile. Also, I am in constant need of a nap.
We are having an indian summer here in Seattle. It’s glorious. Our zucchinis are still going strong. I picked our two apples that made it past the critter lunch bunch. Maybe I can swing taking a nap in the garden.

How can small people be so busy? The social lives and arrangements are so complex. The heron sounds brilliant – would love to have seen that, our courgettes are almost over – even the husband is getting sick of them
